Deep images of the night skies are magnificent and have inspired generations. On the other hand, spectra of distant objects provide a wealth of information that helps astronomers decipher the greatest puzzles in the cosmos. However, spectra have traditionally been less accessible to the public than images. A primary goal of my outreach effort is to illustrate the concept of a spectrum to non-scientists.
